(Warminster, PA)– Spring is quickly approaching, which means it’s the perfect time to break out the cleaning supplies and give your home a refresh.
“Your spring cleaning checklist likely already includes items like dusting shelves, washing windows, decluttering closets, deep cleaning your kitchen and bathroom and mopping,” said Bucks County Association of Realtors® President Frank Blumenthal. “But there are also plenty of other places that homeowners forget about when cleaning that could benefit from a scrub.”
Forgotten places in the kitchen often include the garbage disposal and small appliances. Use baking soda and vinegar or try a disposal cleaning pod to get rid of any odors and gunk built up. Fresh citrus peels can also help keep the disposal smelling fresh. For small appliances, do more than just wipe them down – run a cleaning cycle through your coffee machine or tea kettle, empty crumbs from your toaster and take out the glass plate in your microwave to scrub it thoroughly. Don’t forget to clean the dishwasher, too. Run a cleaning cycle and change the filter if appropriate.
“When’s the last time you cleaned your toothbrush holder?” Blumenthal asked. “Bathrooms collect dirt, grime and bacteria easily, and there are many spots homeowners overlook there.”
In addition to the usual toilet/sink/shower/tub scrub, remember to clean nooks and corners behind the toilet, around the sink and at the base of the tub or shower. Additionally, mold and rust can accumulate around showerheads, in shower caddies and underneath shower products, so don’t forget to give those areas a clean, too.
Other areas that may need cleaning throughout the house include light fixtures and fans, behind washers/dryers, baseboards and crown molding, window tracks and blinds, outdoor furniture, doormats, mattresses and the tops of cabinets. It’s also a good idea to sanitize high touchpoints like TV remotes, light switches, doorknobs and appliance handles/buttons.
“Spring cleaning is a great way to refresh your living space, declutter and improve the health and comfort of your home,” Blumental concluded. “It may feel overwhelming at first, but breaking your checklist into smaller, more manageable tasks and tackling one area at a time can help make the process feel more approachable.”
