(Warminster, PA)– Are you thinking of changing up your home? For many, remodeling increases functionality, livability, and overall happiness. In 2020, Americans spent $420 billion on remodeling their homes, according to the National Association of Realtors® most recent Remodeling Impact Report.
“Remodeling is a great way to improve your home while also increasing its value,” said Bucks County Association of Realtors® President Stephanie Garomon. “Whether big or small, making changes to your living space can boost enjoyment, comfort and quality of life.”
Remodeling is most often done to upgrade worn-out surfaces, finishes and materials (30%), to add features and improve livability (20%) and because it’s time for a change (16%). NAR’s report cites that most consumers were pleased with their overall remodeling results, with 84% of owners saying they had a greater desire to be in their home afterward.
Additionally, 69% reported having an increased enjoyment in their home, 57% reported feeling happy and 39% said they feel satisfied when they see their completed project. For those who DIY-ed their remodels, 69% reported feeling a major sense of accomplishment when thinking of their completed project.
Overall, the Joy Scores – a measurement of satisfaction and happiness – for all remodeling projects were high. Interior projects such as painting, adding a new home office, refinishing hardwood flooring, renovating closets, upgrading insulation and converting attic space to a living area all had Joy Scores of 10, indicating complete satisfaction and happiness.
On the exterior, projects with high Joy Scores included painting exterior siding (9.8), vinyl and wood windows (9.6), steel and fiberglass doors (9.5), roofing (9.2), garage doors (9) and vinyl and fiber cement siding (7.9).
“Remodeling can transform your home,” Garomon shared. “Whether you’ve just bought a new home and want to make it your own, you’re looking to increase value before selling or you’re just ready for a change, remodeling can enhance comfort, functionality and overall happiness.”
