How To File A Complaint: Committees

Professional Standards Committee

The Professional Standards Committee is a standing committee of at least 9 board members in good standing, of whom at least a majority shall be REALTORS® as per PAR & NAR. This committee is responsible for hearing alleged unethical conduct by members or to provide arbitration as requested. Applicants for this committee should be mature, experienced, knowledgeable persons of a judicial temperament. They must have served on the Grievance Committee prior to serving on this committee and if appointed to this committee, are required to attend annual training.

This Regional Professional Standards Committee is comprised of Hearing Panel Chairmen, Hearing Panelists, Appeals Panelists and Mediators from each Association. The function of this committee is to enforce the Code of Ethics, including the mediation of disputes and the conduct of arbitration hearings involving Realtor® members of each Association, ensuring impartial and unbiased Hearing Panels. Panelists appointed to serve may be required to travel to the Montgomery County Association office, as required, for hearings and will be eligible for travel expense reimbursement.

Grivence Committee

The Grievance Committee is a standing committee of at least 5 board members in good standing, of whom at least a majority shall be REALTORS® as per PAR & NAR. This committee is responsible for the evaluation and review of all ethics complaints and arbitration requests to determine for an ethics complaint if taken as true on their face, a hearing is to be warranted. For arbitration requests the committee reviews to decide if further materials are needed to determine if the matter is properly arbitrable. The Grievance Committee makes recommendations only; they do not mediate or conduct hearings.

Applicants must be Realtor® Members in Good Standing and have a minimum of five (5) years in real estate. They are assigned to serve on staggered 3 year terms. If appointed, members are required to attend annual training.
